Day 3: Jasper -- Banff
Today’s journey will take you south along the famous Icefields Parkway, one of the most spectacular highways in North America. Travel through Banff National Park in Alberta and stop at the Columbia Icefield for a glacier adventure.
Continue onto the slopes of the Athabasca Glacier aboard a specially designed vehicle. Your guide will explain how glaciers are formed and will point out interesting geological features of this 1,200-foot thick (365-meter) formation – that’s almost the height of the Empire State Building!
At the icefall below the glacial headwall, you have the option of stepping out onto the ice, formed by snow that fell more than 400 years ago.
After this unique ice adventure, you’ll have time to relax at the Columbia Icefield Centre and enjoy lunch (own expense). In the afternoon, continue to Lake Louise, known by some as the ‘Jewel of the Rockies.’ Stop to take some great photos and then drive to your hotel in Banff, a resort town.
Overnight: Hotel in Banff
Day 4: Banff -- Kamloops (B, L)
After breakfast, you’ll be driven to the Banff train station to board the Rocky Mountaineer train for a 2-day journey through the Rockies. Breakfast and lunch are served at your seat, and complimentary snacks and non-alcoholic drinks are also provided.
Travel across the Continental Divide and through Yoho National Park and the famous Spiral Tunnels. Pass Craigellachie, where the ‘last spike’ was driven, completing the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1885. Upon arrival in Kamloops, you will be delivered to your hotel.
Overnight: Hotel in Kamloops
Day 5: Kamloops -- Vancouver (B, L)
After early morning breakfast on your fifth day, you’ll be dropped off at the Kamloops train station to re-board the Rocky Mountaineer train for the journey to Vancouver. Breakfast and lunch are once again served at your seat.
Follow the Thompson River through the stark landscape of British Columbia. Pass the raging turbulence of Hell’s Gate, where millions of gallons of water rush through the narrowest point of the Fraser Canyon.
Before reaching Vancouver, travel through the final range of mountains, the Pacific Coast Mountains, and into the fertile fields of the Fraser Valley. Upon arrival at the Vancouver train station, transfer via taxi to your selected hotel, where your amazing 5-day tour will end.
