Hofkirche

The impressive Hofkirche sits on a site with a storied past, having once hosted an eighth-century monastery dedicated to St Leger and a 12th-century Romanesque church that burned down in an accident on Easter Sunday of 1633. Only the church's twin towers survived, which today rest on either side of a Renaissance gable.

Hofkirche now features grand main doors carved with two patrons of Lucerne on either side. Other features include a carved pulpit, 17th-century choir stalls and a late Gothic sculpture on the historic north tower. In the surrounding lovely arcades are the tombs of members of previous Lucerne families. Travelers visiting in summer can attend recitals utilizing the church's famous organ.
