Swiss National Park (Parc Naziunal Svizzer)

Europe’s first national park dates back to the late 19th century and amasses some 170 square kilometers of natural landscape, completely untouched by human influence or development. It’s a concept that still remains innovative – no human maintenance is carried out and authorities didn’t even intervene when a forest fire once swept through the park.

The Swiss National Park lies in the far eastern corner of Switzerland and is home to thousands of animal and plant species inhabiting a varied terrain of alpine rough-land, reaching peaks of 3,174 meters. A hike around the 80-km network of walking trails offers up a plethora of wildlife spotting opportunities - look out for marmots, bearded vultures, colorful insects and vast array of trees, herbs and plant life.
