Abkhazi Garden

Victoria is highly rated for its gardens, and the thoughtfully designed, tranquil Abkhazi Garden is no exception.

The garden was created by the Georgian Prince Nicholas Abkhazi, and his Shanghai-born wife, Peggy. Their garden was saved from the developers’ bulldozers and is now managed by a charitable trust.

Surrounding a heritage property, the garden makes the most of the gently sloping, rocky grounds following an Asian-inspired design. Azaleas, rhododendrons, bulbs and woodland plants flower throughout the year, providing interest and inspiration.

There’s also a garden shop that sells locally crafted gifts, and the teahouse restaurant is open for lunch and afternoon tea.

The Abkhazi Garden is in Greater Victoria, north-east of downtown Victoria near Oak Bay.

You can catch a bus here from downtown Victoria, or take a 15-minute drive through the garden-filled suburbs of Victoria if you’re driving.
