Long day getting out to Crab Island, though a very interesting place to see the way the people live, but not the best way to spend your time in KL, especially if your time there is limited. If you have extra time to spend, then yes, I'd recommend. All the other sites our guide brought us too though were very interesting and we enjoyed.
This has to be by far the worst tour I have ever been on in my life.
Firstly, the guide to pick us up was late by thirty minutes. I then went up to our apartment to retrieve the tour information so I could call to ask what was happening and left my family at the lobby. One minute after I left, the driver arrived and my family packed our gear into the van. After the guide found out I was not there he told my wife to take the bags out of his van as he had others to pick up, and apparently was very terse and rude about it when my wife told him that I would be back in five minutes. That was interesting as my wife told me that there were only four seats left on the van so who else was he to pick up? The driver would not wait for me to return even though he was the one who was late.
Eventually after one and a half hours from the original time of pickup another guide arrived with two other people and we were on our way. The guides name was Thomas.
When we arrived at the pier the crowd that was there was horrendously massive. We were told to wait while Thomas parked up, he also told us that it was a public holiday which accounted for the size of the crowd. Ten minutes later Thomas got us to line up in the queue but people were pushing past us and shoving us around to try and get to the front. When it came time to board a ferry that arrived all hell broke loose. We were being shoved from all sides by the locals who wanted to get on the ferry, a few times I lost members of my family and the youngest was my eight year old daughter who was shown no mercy by this unruly mob who wanted to board this ferry. This happened on four separate occasions before we were able to board a ferry. By the second boarding attempt I had to resort to grabbing people and shoving them back to prevent my little girl from being crushed. I was separated from my family and tour group each time and further apart during these ridiculous boarding attempts. The mentality of the locals was nothing short of disgusting.
Our time on the island was nice, our guide Thomas was very knowledgeable and took the time to answer any questions and allowed us the time and opportunity to soak up the culture and take photos. He also showed us the same courtesy at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Mosque and Thean Hou Temple on our drive to the pier. The island itself was a step back in time but I only wished that the locals would take their environment into consideration as there was rubbish everywhere.
The lunch was tasty and ample.
When it was time to depart we were faced with the same unruly mob mentality when boarding the ferry to return. This time though a poor woman was unfortunate enough to fall over the edge.
I have nothing against Thomas, he made the day with his insight and courtesy, but the experience as a whole was overshadowed by the tardiness of the first guide and the attitude of the locals.
We really enjoyed this day with a fun and friendly and informative guidelines.
We really enjoyed our visit to the Blue Mosque, seeing Port Klang and our time at the fishing village.
We could have done with more time at Ketam.
A wonderful experience with our great guide Thomas. The visits on the way to the island were great, and the journey by boat was interesting. The island itself is fascinating, and the food provided in the 'Remember Me' restaurant was great.
It was an interesting trip with stops at the Temple and the Blue Mosque, which was a nice surprise since it wasn't listed in the posting. The lunch at Pulau Ketam was delicious but we had to pay extra for the crab. Considering it's a Crab Island tour one would think that would naturally be on the menu. It's a neat day trip from KL.
The guide was awesome. The village was interesting, but pretty dirty. I am glad I made the trip, but its sad to see so much trash all over. I would still recommend this tour, but be prepared for a visit to a real village.
Tour was interesting, the tour guide was ok as well. But my suggestion is for him to talk about the tour and be more informative about the sights. He tended to speak about himself and his old career. He told many jokes that could be insulting to some people.
Overall a tour worth doing.
