Highly enjoyable tour....To improve it I would suggest arranging a tour that had a guided walk followed by free time to explore the streets of Gion instead of the cultural show. The experience of dinner and the tea house was amazing but the Cultural show felt like a “tourist trap” .

A really excellent evening. Collected and delivered to the Gion Corner for the cultural events which was as expected superb and then taken for a stroll through the Gion district - very busy and a bit of a mystery tour - I'm sure our guide knew where we were going but we were so taken with it all that we didn't really care. Arrived at the restaurant - actually more of a historical building and given a tour - a very special tea ceremony and then a wonderful Japanese meal - This evening was as delight and the highlight of our holiday to japan.

The after-dinner tea ceremony was very traditional, highly recommended

This was a great way to spend an evening in Kyoto. The short presentations of different Japanese cultural arts was great. The only problem was the other 300 people there! Then walking through Gion with an English speaking guide was really informative and you could ask questions about the life of Geiko and Maiko, which are still professions today. The vegetarian tempura meal was tasty in a nice ryokan setting, and the private tea ceremony with detailed explanations was a peaceful way to end the evening. A nice surprise was that we were taken back to our apartment by taxi at the end.

For the price, i expected more of the tour.
The Gion Corner performance only cost about 25 per person if we bought the tickets directly - I am wondering where most of the value of the tour went to. Worse, for that price, you would expect seats to be reserved for you. Instead the group was made to enter late, and we got back seats where my son could not get a decent view of the performance.

The tea ceremony was nice, but the ensuing dinner did not feel particularly special. They should make an effort to accomodate diet requests of guests for that price...my son, and a handful of other people next to us did not each much of the food.

Overall it was a good experience.
We went to see a 50 minute show on Japanese traditions, took a 5 minute walk by Gion, dinned in a place where we also had a tea ceremony.
The transfer from the hotel to Gion was made by taxi.
The tea ceremony really saved the not so good experience and turned it into a good one.
I would personally recommend it only if you haven't got anything else booked. Otherwise, in my opinion, you can totally skip this.
