This tour was a great way to see Pompeii and Herculaneum, definitely the way to go. Desiree made this a fun and informational tour, I learned a lot about both locations and nothing felt forced or gimmicky.
The tour guide was knowledgeable and passionate about the history/subject matter. Organized experience. This was an amazing, not-to-be missed experience when in the area...powerful to be present and surrounded by so much history! The break between the two with lunch was fabulous...great restaurant!
It was hard to find a tour that covered both locations. It was either one or the other. I was happy to find one that covered both and had lunch in between. We were picked up near our hotel so that was a nice inclusion. There were only a few people in our minivan, which was a relief specially having been on cramped and crowded tour buses before. The van ride was long (about an hour or so) but comfortable. Our guide was friendly and spoke good English. We first headed to Pompeii and had 2 hours guided tour. It was a very comprehensive informative tour. The walking along the ancient rugged roads could be a problem to older or walk-averse people but otherwise a breeze for most. They say it is always crowded in Pompeii. Yes, there were a lot of people but Pompeii is vast and open so it did not feel claustrophobic, like in the Sistine Chapel tour (if you have been, you know what I mean). After 2 hours, we went for lunch at a nearby restaurant. The food was mediocre at best, but it nourished us for the day. We then headed to Ercolano for yet another 2 hours of sad and catastrophic stories. The empath in me made the tour hard to endure. Overall, the tour was all worth it, time and money wise. I recommend this 2 in 1 tour. It would have even been better if we did the Naples Archeological museum tour the next day as well. It would have tied it all together. Plus, we would have had the opportunity on the side to eat the famous and authentic napolitan pizza and caprese cake. Oh well, next time. This tour is definitely a big bang for your buck that I highly recommend.p
Fantastic with a well informed and interesting guide. Walking the streets of Pompeii and then Herculaneum was remarkable. A good introduction to these time capsules but each will have to be revisited because they are far more extensive that we had imagined and each requires at least a day.
This tour was amazing - as someone who loves history and archaeology, this is a great way to scratch the surface of Pompeii and Herculaneum. My time in Italy was really limiting, but with this tour I was able to get a great overview of the ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum! Our tour guide sorry I forget her name was also very knowledgeable and really made the history come alive - something I never would have been able to do if I had tried to visit Pompeii on my own. I would definitely recommend this to anyone!!
After being on my to do list for many years, I finally had the chance to take this great day trip. The Pompeii sight is huge and I like to see everything, but once there realized that walking around over the course of the guided tour, one does not HAVE to see everything to appreciate what it was and is today. Especially in you do some research before the visit, you can see and experience much in the allotted time. It is truly amazing and well worth any kind of a visit. Herculaneum is small and compact and easy to grasp in a short time, and just as amazing as Pompeii. The present city is virtually on top of the excavation, which lends an extra dimension of understanding of the history and evolution of the ancient city. The guide was terrific, with information, stories, told in an entertaining way. If someone has more time, I would recommend visiting Pompeii for a whole day, but if time for this is short as in my case, seeing the two sites in one day is a great way to go. Lunch is pretty good, a convenience more than a great meal but worth while.
This was quite good, but rather pricey once you factor in the additional 24 euros for entrances. You can easily get the train to Pompeii and get an audio guide. That would be quite a nice day out at a fraction of the cost.
