This was well worth it as we had been mucked around with our tickets so were somewhat time poor. We managed to catch the train up to the Gloriette but mistakenly went to the stop where we were dropped off to get the train back to the Palace. Unfortunately we discovered we should have been elsewhere so missed the train. They weren't as frequent as I would have expected in the middle of summer. We ended up walking back down to the Palace as our time to tour the Palace was fast approaching. The walk down wasn't too bad but it was very hot the day we were there so we were feeling a bit overheated by the time we got to the Palace.
Absolutely delightful! Ideal way to see round the extensive grounds before doing the palace. Allow plenty of time as there are several interesting stopping-off points en route.
When visiting the Palm houses don't get the train to the Zoo,it's just next door! We felt rather silly on our one-stop leg of the journey!
The train stops for ten minutes up at the Gloriette, which is enough time to look round, but as there is also a restuarant there, lunch is an option.
Buy your tickets on line well in advance as they are cheaper!
Schonbrunn is huge...too much to do all on foot...I put in 7 miles of walking. The Mini-Train was a great overall introduction that helped me decide where I wanted to invest my time. August is heavy visitation so it wasn't always possible to get on a train at intermediate stops if no one got off first but the trains run at frequent intervals.
I was not impressed with the gardens. Really there are no actual gardens that you see from this train. The train takes you around the grounds of the palace but everything else costs extra to see. I did not think this was a good value. Also there was no reason to buy tickets in advance at a more expensive price from viator then buying them directly on the train.
Beautiful gardens! We took the metro to get there, got off at Metro Hietzing. The mini-train was easy to pick up at the entrance and I was glad I booked it in advance so I just showed my printout and enjoy the ride.
